Portland Shellfish Company Recalls Listeria Contaminated Lobster Products
A recall has been issued for lobster meat sold nationwide after tests showed it may be contaminated with listeria, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Portland Shellfish Company is now voluntarily pulling all of its lobster products off store shelves, affecting retailers throughout the nation.
Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can lead to infection and cause serious food poisoning illness. Listeria may lead to death in children and the elderly as well as stillbirth and miscarriage in pregnant women. The symptoms of listeria infection include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
